We are very happy to be back home in Eleuthera now …. The trip went well and we did have one gorgeous meal there which I will report on later in the blog. But Dorothy was right – there’s no place like home !
Poor Bob had a really tough time – after the surgery to remove the skin cancer he had some pretty painful and invasive dental work done two days later – so by the time we got back on Friday afternoon he was wrecked .
He rested all day Saturday and slept a lot so we did not go to Junior Junkanoo on Saturday night – but our roving (raving ?) reporter Dan did and not only provided the brilliant pictures but also a great account of it all.

The winners in the primary school group were our local Governors Harbour crew from Emily G Petty School and from all sources I heard that they were fantastic. It was particularly poignant as the day before was the funeral of Emily Petty – the former principal of the school. She had been ill with cancer for a while so it was not entirely unexpected – but very sad nonetheless. She would have been thrilled with the show they put on as well as the result ! Everyone I have spoken to told me what a great competition it was and how much they enjoyed it. Sorry that we had to miss it – but it just wasn’t on the cards for us……

It was incredibly well attended – both local people and visitors too and as it went on until around 1am I think we can safely say a good time was had by all……
Now let me tell you about our standout meal in Fort Lauderdale. It was at an Italian restaurant on Las Olas Blvd called Louie Bossi’s – or Big Louies. I had tried several times to book a table without any success – it was the height of Spring Break of course which is the reason but we just turned up early on Wednesday evening – and I mean early – around 5.30 ! And we were told that yes we could get a table. Valet parking there does not start until 6pm so it was with some trepidation that we drove around the back to find a parking space – well there was one spot just waiting for us and miraculously there was a machine in the car park where you could pay with a card. So many car parks now you have to pay via an app on your phone which is a nightmare with a Bahamian phone. I can only use mine on Whatsapp when I have an internet connection.

Anyway back to the meal ! I had a divine pasta – tagliarini al limone – divine ! Honestly one of the best pasta dishes I have eaten in a long time. It is made with meyer lemons, yellow tomatoes, parmesan, pistachios , mascarpone and basil. Bob had the special that night – lasagne made with both finely chopped beef and veal. I didn’t try it because of not eating meat but Bob said it was really tasty.

We followed it up with ice cream – Bob had plain vanilla and I had an affogato with decaf espresso. So delicious I forgot to take a picture . We will definitely be going back there – the lady on the next table to me had a spaghetti vongole which looked really good and I would love to try……
Our flight back home with Aztec Airways was as usual very straightforward and pleasant and despite being overweight with the food we brought back all went very smoothly.

I treated us to a rotisserie chicken from Wholefoods – $7.99 !!!! I couldn’t pass on that so I made some roast potatoes, carrots and parsnips on Sunday and we enjoyed a restorative nourishing roast dinner. I also picked up some tasty quiches from Croissant Time on US1 and that made a very quick and simple meal on Saturday evening.

It took us both several days to feel back to normal – these trips really can drain you. Oh for a trip that is just about rest and recuperation.
Anyway dear friends that’s it for this week – if you are traveling yourselves then take care and allow time for recovering !
