Hello dear readers – this week I am giving you bits and bobs of news from the island. The sculpture show at The Potlatch Club last Saturday went very well – it was a beautiful day and the turnout was very encouraging . The sculptors all did very well and sold a lot of what they were showing which is encouraging to hear. There was some beautiful work on display and so a good few people are now enjoying what they bought……. Sorry that the above picture got cropped like this !
Sadly early that morning there was a fire at The Potlatch Club and whist none of the cottages or restaurant were affected in any way – the laundry which is a key part of the business – was completely destroyed . The building was away from the main part of the resort and luckily the fire didn’t spread – but even so it was a pretty serious thing to happen…..
When I spoke with Hans Febles about it the next day he told me that immediately they heard about it the owners and management of Pineapple Fields offered the key to their laundry facility for Potlatch to use after their staff left at 4pm. And then Hans told me that Andrey Gardiner and his mother Sonja also offered their laundromat after hours for the hotel laundry to be done.
After writing last week about the kindness of friends it was particularly apt to hear of these two unconditional acts of great kindness and friendship in the face of a horrible situation…..
On a different note I managed to get an appointment at pretty short notice with the dental hygienist who comes twice a month from Nassau to The Family Medicine Center in Rock Sound. It has been way too long since I had a scale and polish – as we book pretty close to our US trips I never seem to be able to get an appointment. Anyway the lady at the Family Medicine Center was an absolute find – she was pleasant, thorough, knowledgable and very good at her job. So I will now be a regular customer with her and stay on top of those appointments. I do heartily recommend her – call the Family Medicine Center on 242 334 2500 to book an appointment.

Our good friend Carol celebrated her birthday this week with a fabulous party at her home. You may remember me writing last year about how she fell and shattered her hip and spent her actual birthday – after being air lifted from the island – in hospital having a hip replacement. Well she came back to fitness and if you saw her dancing at the party and having fun with the fire eater you would never have known. Grit and determination are two of Carol’s great characteristics and she is a shining beacon to all of us that with the right amount of application the body will respond.

Horatio did the food which was enjoyed by all the guests and there was live singer as well as the fire eater ….. A good time was had by all.

On Sunday we had a great lunch with Carol and her friends who had flown down from the East Coast. There was a table of 10 of us and I thoroughly enjoyed my specially requested Pad Thai dish which chef Choki cooks really well.

Bob and I are off to the land of plenty on Sunday – flying in with Aztec Airways as usual and having a car ready at the airport from GoRental. The convenience is absolutely ideal for us and we have a lovely time swanning in to the airport and swanning out to our rental car. Not too much rest and relaxation on the cards, chiropractor, dentist, eye surgeon, dermatologist – the maintenance list goes on and on ! But it will be lovely to go to different restaurants and pick new things from the menus ……
So probably a fairly brief blog next week – just giving you a heads up !

Have a great weekend and take care of yourselves and those around you in these troubled times.
