Getting In To the 2026 Groove in Eleuthera

Well many of us are trying to get in to the 2026 groove both here in Eleuthera and everywhere else – right ?

The festivities are all over, I have packed away for another year our decorations and now we are getting on with work on The Jewel. The final windows and doors turned up and they are all installed now so the house is watertight and secure.

This is the new entrance lobby

I absolutely love this little house and I am busy planning finishes and decor for it.

The new master suite bedroom windows

A few weeks ago I ordered a clothes airer – very useful for either drying sweaters flat after handwashing or hanging freshly ironed clothes on before putting them away in the closet.

This was what I saw on Amazon ….

Anyway it arrived and I was shocked to see a small box with a lot of poles and parts in it. I didn’t see anything when I bought it saying it was self assembly ! On New Year’s Day I decided it was time to tackle it. Thank goodness nobody was fining me for swearing because I’m telling you my language was terrible. It was incredibly frustrating and finicky to put together – Bob was there reassuring me and helping with morale but unfortunately because of his Parkinson’s shakes he couldn’t help me much practically.

This was what I got !

But after just over an hour it was done – miraculous and quite satisfying. I had sweated buckets and cursed up a storm – but it was done. If only I had known it was self assembly I would have definitely chosen something else. Starting the New Year with such a ridiculous task accomplished was really quite a boost – and it yes it is really useful …….

Tada ! Finally assembled

We spent New Years Eve at The Potlatch Club with good friends Carol and Keith along with Keith’s sister confusingly also called Carol. I must say the meal was really good and the table decorations were lovely. needless to say we were home and in bed by 10 and slept through any fireworks that were let off at midnight.

Beautifully laid tables

Dynamite shrimp – the second course – the first was pumpkin and coconut bisque. All the food was delicious
Lobster – which can be a bad choice when eating out – but this was cooked perfectly
Bob had the steak with I can’t remember what sauce !
A good time was had by all…..

Both Bob and I loved our 2 week vacation at home and it gave us time to think about things for the new house. Leisure time is a great luxury and we certainly made the most of it…..

The staff did a wonderful job – I took this picture very early on so nobody was frazzled !

And finally – we get some spectacular sunset skies here at Wykee – this was so beautiful ……

Have a great weekend and see you all next week ……

By the way thanks to Dan for the beach picture at the top – pretty much a deserted beach and a very low tide ….. Got to love that French Leave Beach.

  1. Cathy, I have that same drying rack from Amazon. I too had a few choice words putting it together. But it works great!

  2. Debbie Christiansen

Thanks for all the yummy pictures from New Year’s Eve. We can’t wait to get back to Potlatch!
Congratulations on completing the clothing rack. I can definitely relate to how you were feeling. Over the past year, we have assembled countless items (from Amazon) for our new house here, in Eleuthera. Always satisfying, but it can be so frustrating!!!
    Happy New Year!
