Nearly The End of January Already …..

Well here we are – it’s nearly the end of January already. Does this month seem to have gone quickly for everyone ? I have always found January an interminable month but I think because of the work that is going on with the new house it has gone much quicker than usual.

Progress is coming on well – pretty much all the sheetrock is up and that quickly transforms the look of the place. I have ordered the paint for the interior from Nassau – Paint Suppliers – who I have found to be very efficient , with great service . I am using Benjamin Moore color Simply White for all of the interior – walls, ceiling trim – everything. It is a color that has become my go to for interiors. Not too stark, not too creamy – as Goldilocks said – just right !

Paint Suppliers will match any color from any brand which is really helpful – particularly for me for the odd Farrow and Ball color ! They get the paint delivered to the boat and their service is excellent. Since Paint Paradise closed in Palmetto Point they have been my best discovery ! Their contact number for anyone interested is 242 393 2836.

Our new flooring arrived this week – it is an engineered board – white oak. I am absolutely thrilled with it but we won’t be laying it until the painting is done. I have bought protective paper to lay over it but I would rather not risk it ….. It is pretty much the same as we used at Sprawling Towers but that particular one was discontinued so Tony Poletti – my irreplaceable freight forwarder – sourced it for me. It is a wider plank at 9 1/2″ and looks fantastic.

On a different note the yoga class at The Levy Preserve on a Saturday is going from strength to strength. Monique Carroll – our yoga guru – is now also teaching a Wednesday morning class – same time – 10am at the Levy Preserve.

Great class at the Levy Preserve last Saturday

I haven’t managed to make that one yet – but it is also well attended. Monique is a gifted teacher who can read her class well and there is never any pressure to push yourself too far. Over the years I have done many classes which I called ego yoga where you had to push yourself way to hard and it was implicit that you looked at your classmates and tried to do better than them Always results in injury and misery. None of that with Monique’s classes.

As I have said before , Monique also practices Reiki and I have a session with her every 2 weeks. I know I feel better for it and do miss it when I have to go without it.

My body maintenance also includes a session every 2 weeks with Dr Kim Margolis in Tarpum Bay.  She is also very gifted at what she does and the Mission Clinic offers a wide range of treatments. Also highly recommended.

The weather here has turned very cool again – but at least we can see the sun …. The weather in much of the US looks and sounds awful – with many flights cancelled or delayed it makes getting here for visitors very difficult.

If you are coming here at this time of year it is worth making sure that you pack a few warmer items of clothing…..

Torrential rain on Monday evening ……

We went for dinner the other evening to The Buccaneer – the new pavilion was good but when the rains came down it was a pantomime seeing the staff trying to get drinks and food out there as there is a gap between the roof of the main restaurant and the pavilion – and no guttering – so it was like buckets were being emptied over the wait staff and anyone going between the 2 buildings……

Getting a drink out without diluting it….

Anyway dear friends – not much news this week but on February 28th there is a sculpture exhibition at The Potlatch Club. Plenty of news about that in a couple of weeks. Have a good weekend and do stay safe and warm if you are in cold climes……..

A flyer for the sculpture exhibition

By the way – thank you for the responses to last week’s blog about glimmers – some lovely examples – it seemed to touch a spot with many people.

Found this picture from 5 years ago when I was looking for something else – a glimmer when that happened !

  1. Hi Kathy, we talked tonight at Tippy’s, I took your picture with Angel and Miles. It was very nice to meet you at Potlatch, Buccaneer and Tippy’s! Tomorrow the whole group (26) are going to Harbor Island and going boating. Denise and I are staying at Harbor Island for two night then return to my home in Fort Lauderdale. We have had a great time visiting Governor’s Harbor and hope to return. Take care Steve

Looking at the Bahamas upcoming meteorological forecasts for weather there, you’re right about warm clothes! And the predicted wave heights are a wow. It’s awful [3 degrees ] here in western Massachusetts, except for the blatant beauty of it all. We hang out or in actually. If l am not too shy, l may try the yoga venue. But definitely the Potlatch art show.

  4. Thanks for your inspirational newsletter!!
It makes me realize how much I love coming to visit and how I miss my son who lives near Gregory Town
    I was there last winter
    Keep it up!!

  5. We have been here (Holmes Bay) for a week now at a place we’ve rented before. We love it here, and are almost certainly going to rent for a month next year. I’ve been reading through your site and thoroughly appreciate the reading! After three trips myself (our younger daughter was on staff at the Island School), I am determined next time to rent an SUV with some ground clearance! Be well.

So happy that that you enjoy the blog …… Yes and SUV with good ground clearance sounds like a very good idea !
