News at the Buccaneer and more….

News this week of the Buccaneer right here in Governors Harbour plus a story of metal and money !

The Buccaneer is a favorite spot for many people who both live here and visit. For those of you who don’t know it – why the heck not ? It has a lovely casual family vibe. The staff are always plentiful and ready to serve. It is really pleasant to sit out on the big deck and enjoy a favorite drink and select some well prepared and tasty food from the menu. And now there are now new locally made tables and chairs to enjoy your food and drink at.

Enjoying lunch at the spiffy new tables

They also have a shop on the site as well. Katherine – one of the family owners brought back from Europe a great selection of clothing and some lovely necklaces as well. There is a great range of T shirts – Buccaneer ones with the pirate logo, ‘It’s better in the Bahamas’ as well as a selection for the Eleuthera All that Jazz Festival.

I might have to treat Rudge to a Buccaneer Club drinking bowl !

Michele and Katherine have managed to collate a great selection in the shop and it is well worth stopping by to check it all out. Annie Griffin – another family member – also has a range of her handmade beach bags and all sorts of craft items which make a great momento of a visit here.

I love these pineapple door stops made by Annie
Lovely colorful necklace

The Buccaneer is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner – so no excuse for not being able to fit a visit in – don’t forget to try one of Chris’s – Michele’s son – delicious deserts.

Fancy shorts eh ?
Great with this cover up and necklace…..

Last week saw the first Bi-Annual blood drive since dear Chris and Alison Gosling left the island. Of course it wasn’t the same – but it was a success. One day was down in Cape Eleuthera, one day at the new clinic of Dr Arlington Lightbourne in Palmetto Point – a first for that – and then the final day at the clinic in Governors Harbour. Great thanks to Jason Thompson of HACE for the organization and also grateful thanks to David Barlyn at Pineapple Fields for providing accommodation for the 3 staff coming in from Nassau.

Not a very flattering shot of anyone – but proof we did our duty and donated a pint each – with Glen and Everitte from the Nassau Blood Bank

On a slightly more serious note I want to stress to you our visitors who come here the importance of car insurance ! – Not very exciting eh ? But vitally important.

When you rent a vehicle here you need to be aware that you only have third party insurance. Of course that means that any damage you do to another vehicle or person is covered. But is means that you are responsible for any damage done to the vehicle you are driving. Many credit card companies do cover you for this damage but only if you pay for the car rental by credit card.

It is a very good idea to check out with your credit card company if you are covered when you are out of your country of residence – and if not please do consider taking out a travel policy that will cover all eventualities.

Last week we dd have an incident of a traffic accident with some of our renters at Governors Estate – fortunately no-one was physically hurt – it was just a question of metal and money – but it is a horrible experience to have and knowing that you are financially covered can be somewhat of a reassurance.

A birthday celebration at Tippy’s with Indi, Friedrike, Clemens the birthday boy and Amanda
Some of you will have seen Clemens and Nancy driving round Governors Harbour in their beautifully restored Morris Minor. Well this is a gem of a painting of it – a very thoughtful gift from good friend and great artist Friedrike.
Look carefully at the Eleuthera guide on the right hand side of the table and you should be able to spot Mish and Zev of Boy Meets Girl Weddings on the cover !

  1. Buccaneer is one of our favorites! The waiters are always so friendly too.I don’t understand the meaning behind the nude statues however!Very embarrassing to have your picture taken with that in the background.Where is their shop with clothes? I’ve never seen it.Be back in July and will check it out.

The shop is right next door …… So pleased you are coming back in July – you need to ask them about the nude statues !!

  2. John & Linda Raker

We loved the Buccaneer and Linda made some excellent finds in their shop.

Thinking of a dreamy Grouper Sandwich – Yum!
