Seeing super clearly after last week in the US ……

Hello dear readers – seeing super clearly now after last week in the US. My second cataract operation went really well – and no virus this time thank goodness.  No reading glasses for even the tiniest print – and the whole world looks like it has been spring cleaned !

We stayed the first two nights down in Aventura which is very close to the Hallandale Outpatients Surgical Center. A very quick Uber ride on Monday there and back and then on Tuesday morning I just walked to the surgeon’s office round the corner from where we were staying. The check up went very well and I was off and driving by lunchtime.

We drove up the coast to Highland Beach – immediately before Delray Beach to stay in a condo loaned to us by our great friend Carol. It was right on the ocean and was absolutely ideal for resting up and relaxing.

Just look at that view from the lounge area …

Everything we wanted was nearby – Wholefoods and Home Depot so we were both happy …..

Of course we took full advantage of eating out whilst we were away. The night after the surgery we Uber’d to Aventura Mall and had a great meal at Toku – an Asian restaurant. The interior was cool and low lit – very stylish with some great lampshades – see below.

Loved these fabric lightshades in Toku

What they didn’t tell us was that the portions are what they call family style and we call huge ! We shared sesame chicken, tempura rock shrimp and ginger and scallion yakisoba noodles.  It was absolutely delicious and we both ate our fill and there was still quite a lot left over. Special mention to the great Sapporo beer we had as well…..

What a feast
and loved the Sapporo beer

The next night we went to an Italian restaurant in Delray Beach called Gabriella’s. This – along with a couple of other ones was recommended and they were excellent.

I can’t tell you how tasty this was

We both ate the same daily special – a seafood pasta – the pasta was lumeche nero – so a black pasta with delicious seafood and a tomato based sauce that was exceptionally good and then topped with a toasted breadcrumb and parmesan confection. Oh and we had some garlic bread as well.  So good – I would eat it every night for a week if I could !!

So sorry but I don’t remember this lovely waiter’s name – but he was great

The last memorable meal was also in Delray Beach at Hyde Park. This is a steak house so Bob enjoyed a filet mignon with a peppercorn sauce and I had the best piece of Chilean sea bass I have ever had. Served with a lemon buerre blanc it was seared with a crust on the outside but cooked to tender perfection on the inside. We also had a spinach and mushroom side dish and the best potato au gratin ever …… Unfortunately I had left my camera at home so no pictures of that night to show you – only visions still in my head.

A delicious rotisserie chicken that Bob had one night when we ate at Houston’s in Boca Raton

We had some extremely good waiters and excellent service. Of course there is always the exception to the rule and we did have one negative experience but as I’m sure you are aware I don’t like to write bad reviews – I always live by the rule that if you don’t have something nice to say then don’t say anything….

We managed to fit in a trip to the chiropractor and a haircut for me so quite a lot done ……

We flew home on Saturday with Aztec Airways – always good. It was nice to enjoy the public holiday here in the Bahamas on Monday and hopefully those of you in the US enjoyed Memorial Day.

And so dear friends on we go. The blog will be every 2 weeks now – so you can really look forward to that. I am counting the weeks and days down until my sister Jane arrives here – 4 weeks time for those of you reading this on the day it is published. Lots to do to get into the Jewel by then but hopefully it will happen. The last thing I want is for Jane to have to help us move in !!

Take care of yourselves and anyone who is contemplating cataract surgery I urge you to do it. It is a treat that is beyond price !!

Bob’s oatmeal breakfast at the Hilton Hoel Aventura – delicious

  1. So glad you can see so well now! I had my cataract surgery done in 2020 and the colors were so bright afterwards! I need reading glasses however now so usually you choose close or far or both I thought?
Did Dr Spratt do the surgery? After your recommendation I see him and love him.

    1. Thanks Lynn – yes Dr Spratt was great as always…. I had the multifocal lenses in so they work for both eyes – distance and close – like magic !!

  2. So very happy that your eyes are happy and healthy again! Thank you kindly for this blog and all blogs Kathy. I truly appreciate and enjoy your words and stories over my morning coffees 🙂 Thank you Wendy
