Yes dear readers – I am seeing you all clearly now after my first cataract surgery. The procedure went very well but unfortunately the next day I realized I was coming down with a bad cough and cold and razor blades in my throat !
Of course I had been told to rest well after the surgery but my body decided that I may not take this advice so it totally laid me out with this horrible virus that is doing the rounds.

I did feel really awful and laid on the bed – very comfortable – for large parts of the day for the rest of the week. Since we have been back I have been using some herbal tea and fresh vervain, to ease the symptoms, which I bought from the NB farm featured a few weeks ago. I also tried a truly hideous – but effective remedy for blocked sinus recommended to me by lovely Monique Carroll. A clove of garlic crushed and very finely chopped, add some honey and cayenne pepper ! It is vile and the first time I added too much cayenne pepper so it nearly blew my head off – but it certainly cleared my sinuses !!!

Anyway – back to the trip !
Fortunately the only important thing we wanted to do – test and buy a new mattress ! – we did on the Sunday after we arrived. It was a great experience. We tried to go back to the store where we had bought the last on about 7 years ago but it had closed down. Serendipity is a wonderful thing so we went into a store opposite the UK food store – Pond Hoppers – in Ft Lauderdale where we stock up on Bob’s favorite sweets – jelly babies ! In this store we met John – the proprietor who was brilliant and told us that this was an independently owned business and not part of an anonymous chain.

I told him that we have previously had a Stearns and Foster plush top mattress which was heavenly and he showed us the latest version of it right there ! Perfect and he arranged for it to be delivered to King’s Ocean. Job done in no time and now all I have to do is wait for it to be delivered to Eleuthera. If you are in Florida or if you want to try a new mattress before shipping it to Eleuthera I cannot recommend John highly enough…

We did manage to eat out every evening – I was driving 36 hours after the procedure – which made life very easy. It was all very leisurely which was just what was needed.

I had another check up on Friday – and booked to get my left eye done on May 18th. I celebrated by going and getting my hair washed and blow dried. You are not allowed to do anything like shampooing your hair for 10 days after the procedure so it was a treat to be pampered !

We used A1A to get up or down the coast as it is considerably less frantic than US1 and certainly I95. Lovely to see the different areas on the coast even if it was only a stretch of probably 20 miles in total.

We flew home on Saturday – of course with Aztec Air – and even though it is getting more and more expensive it is worth it to us for the total convenience of it. I had done a food shop and brought a couple of bags with frozen salmon, some pasta dishes , cheeses and a rotisserie chicken. Such a treat !

This has been an exciting week at The Jewel with the kitchen countertops being fitted and the generator lifted in to place ready for connection next week. Pictures of this next week….
All the curtain tracks are fitted so I can get final measurements for the finished length for the custom made linen curtains.
We are getting closer and closer to being able to plan the move and I absolutely can’t wait !!
Thanks to Dan and Larry who took care of Rudge while we were away – he was very spoilt and pampered and had a whale of a time I’m sure !!
See you all next week – have a great weekend…..

Feel better…colors are crazy right. During my two different eye interim I kept looking at what I thought white had been for years. Also one blouse I wore for years with a multicolored jacket…total clash. Yikes .
Looking forward to kitchen pix.
Elise
Thanks Elise …. The colors were so bright the morning after I had to shield my eyes !!

Hi Kathy,
Hope your virus is soon a thing of the past. And good luck with next eye. Gosh, I can’t imagine what you’ll do with crystal clear vision since you have created wonders with less! BTW, I meant to tell you that after you wrote about it, I purchased Raising Hare and loved it. Tx for the tip! Get well & say hi to Bob for Peter & me. xoxo Linda
