Boogie Bubbles and Clean K9’s in Eleuthera

Introducing you this week to Boogie Bubbles and Clean K9s here in Eleuthera.

So firstly Boogie Bubbles is a small cafe offering bubble tea, coffee drinks , all sorts of speciality drinks including a range of smoothies and – as we sampled this past week – ramen bowls and asian style dumplings. It is in the plaza where you can find First Caribbean Bank, BTC and Insurance Management amongst others.

The outside of Boogie Bubbles – the picture at the top is their outside eating area – most people have the food as takeout.

It is the first building on your left as you turn in from Queen’s Highway. Dan had told me that they did dumplings there – so I went in last week and bought some shrimp dumplings which we ate for lunch. They were very tasty and I liked the sound of the ramen bowls so we had a meal from there on Saturday. All really tasty and delicious and a very welcome option of somewhere new to eat from. We shared a ramen bowl and had a portion of the shrimp dumplings again along with the vegetarian dumplings.

Do give it a try. The owner is a lovely young woman called Quera Smith – and it is important to support local businesses. Apparently it has been open for nearly two years so we are very late to discover this !! Check out the link I have made to their website .

Next news of a great grooming service I heard about in South Palmetto Point called Clean K9s. Rudge needed a good shampooing and I decided that he should also have a good trimming. Although he has a pretty sleek coat it is very thick and he can shed a lot. I usually shampoo him myself but I decided – having heard about Phil and his business – that I could get someone else to do it. Life is so very busy at the moment with the house renovations so that laying something like this off to a specialist sounded like a very good idea. I was thrilled with the results and will definitely be keeping Rudge close groomed like this from now on.

I know I am biased but how lovely does our boy look !

Phil can be contacted on 242 456 2534. I highly recommend him – it cost $80 which for me was money well spent. And Rudge manages to look younger as a result of his grooming visit. Phil also boards dogs so if you need a trip off island then he could be a very useful contact.

Brian is recuperating well and I am recuperating from two trips to Nassau in one week fairly well ! Brian is due to have her stitches out on the day most of you will be reading this. She doesn’t look her best at the moment with a large patch shaved out of her coat – but it will grow back pretty quickly. She is moving pretty well and Rudge is being very gentle with her. She spends the large part of the day in a room on her own so that she isn’t tempted to leap about – but we bring her down to be with us for the evening. Cats do sleep a great deal so it isn’t too much of a hardship for her to be on her own.

Yikes – this must have been painful don’t you think ?

Now news of some great food we have enjoyed this week…..

On Sunday we had an impromptu trip to The Front Porch in Hatchet Bay. The food never disappoints there – Francis is a great chef and Gina is a fabulous hostess. We ate delicious shrimp and lobster tail in a light curry sauce which was delicious….. It was a surprise to find them open as I thought they would be closed for the season – but no – they are staying open…..

No pictures of the food for the usual reasons but here we are with Francis and Gina…..

Then one night in the week we were invited to Dan and Larry’s for Dan’s world famous conch fritters. We had never sampled them before – but they were fantastic. Actually they are what Dan calls conch meatballs. He minces the conch and adds his secret extra ingredients and then just uses egg to bind them with a little flour. So whereas most conch fritters are mostly batter with a bit of conch in them – these are solid conch with no batter. We ate a ton of them served with a fabulous asian salad . Bob is now trying to convince Dan to write a cookbook with Bahamian recipes like this as many people would love that – don’t you think ?

This was a delicious poke bowl that I had for lunch in Nassau on Thursday at the Island House Hotel. It was so tasty – marinated salmon – yummy- sorry about my foot – should have cropped that out shouldn’t I ????
This is the setting of the cafe in the Island House Hotel

Okay – that’s all for now. Have a lovely weekend and take good care of yourselves and those you love – be they human or animal ……
