Eleutheramania is the great name conjured up by Bob’s son Joel for the Basketball camps and 3 x 3 Tournaments that he has organized for the last 2 years right here in Eleuthera. This year there was a coaching camp and tournament held down in Wemyss Bight – at the basketball court that was so kindly built by the generous donation of Dougie Douglas.

Of course this year the camp was held later in the year – and so it was extremely hot. There is no shade at all down there so everybody really did swelter. I think that maybe a sun shelter would be a good thing to put in there so that there is somewhere to rest out of the sun. We will maybe do a little fundraising to see if we can provide one.

Children from up and down the island were picked up by a bus and taken to the camp – and they had a great day.

The second day – Saturday – was hosted in Harbour Island and Coach Tiny Johnson did a sterling job with everyone. Joel bought down 4 players from Toronto and they were a great inspiration for all the participants.

I want to give a great heads up to sponsors who supported the events. Aliv Phones were terrific and it looks like they will carry on their support next year as well. Also as I mentioned last week the Pruitt family donated around 80 basketballs which were very well received as you can imagine and then Mr and Mrs Steve Bethell who through their company Beyond Retro supplied 60 kits for the kids….. And of course maybe Colman Design had a bit to do with it all as well…..

At the moment I am staying over in Nassau with my Mum – she has to have an operation at Doctors Hospital here. Ladies plumbing – don’t ask ! Anyway we have been met with such kindness and thoughtfulness by so many of the people we have come into contact with whilst having various check ups and tests done – it has made it a much more pleasant experience than she expected it to be. The best example was the 2 porters from the hospital arguing while they were walking her out to the car that I had bought round to the front entrance – she said that she had to wait 90 years to have two chaps fighting for her favors !!
