Hello dear readers – a bit of this and that in January this week.
Now that we are firmly into the New Year I got to work getting some of the unfurnished rooms at Sprawling Towers sorted out. We have two rooms on a lower level that have been languishing in neglect and so I set to. One I have made into an office and the other into a yoga studio. And guess what – that has encouraged me to re start a long neglected yoga practice. I feel pretty stiff and out of practice but the internet is a wonderful source of easy classes and it is a great way to get back in the swing of things. There is no doubt that physical exercise is energizing both physically and mentally and I am looking forward to seeing the small gains made by a regular practice again.
The office needs the internet set up in it but that should be sorted out soon. Both of these rooms could be bedrooms – they both have ensuite shower rooms – but for us they are better used as a yoga studio and office for the time being….
The studio that we have here is now also furnished. It hands down has the best view of the whole property and the glass doors take full advantage of that. It now has a king sized bed as well as a sofa and chairs. The rug I have had for years – literally – never unpacked – but finally it has a home. Lovely curtains made by my dear friend Joy in the UK, who I have raved about before, give privacy when needed and now all that it requires is the kitchen items putting in so that it is entirely self sufficient like the one bedroom cottage already is.
I popped into what was Burrows Foodstore this week to speak with the contractor and ask him if it was okay to give a little progress report on the renovation. What a surprise – they have 2 teams of workers – one shift is 8am – 4pm then the second shift is 4pm – 12 midnight. It is going along at a great speed – I am meeting on Friday with the lady who has a great photographic record of the whole process so next week there will be a lot more to show you and tell you about. They have stripped it back to pretty much the 4 outside walls and now it looks so much bigger. The contractor – Byron Smith from Alcho Construction – was very helpful and clearly very proud of the company’s work. I look forward to monitoring the progress and bringing you news of it all.
And so dear readers – that’s it for this week. Next week news of sushi night at Bacchus Fine Foods – held on a Wednesday and don’t forget that they have pizza night on a Monday. Worth a visit if you are on island….. Take care and keep safe and warm if you are in the cold climes of the UK, US and Canada.

Gosh you have a good eye Cathy – the rooms look smashing.
Now we are a quarter of the way through the new century it’s starting to feel like time to make it back to Eleuthera. We are off to Australia, Singapore and Indonesia in a week or so to escape the next 3 months of the Cornish winter but I can feel 2026 plans coming on…..
Oh that sounds like a great adventure Ruth ! Lovely to hear from you and it would be great to see you maybe next year. Safe travels and have fun….
Beautiful!
Thank you !
I’ll take that view any day! Of Brian l mean. Ha-ha! Thanks. Seriously, lower level looking swell. Modern Asian bed cover is *very* nice. Any notion when Burrows is slated to open? Remember those yoga days at the School for Exceptional Learners?
The cover on the bed I have had for at least 25 years ! I have used it in various shoots but it seems to have found a home here ….. The food store is due to open mid march – so hopefully while you are here. Yes I remember very well those yoga days with the Exceptional Learners – they were a lot of fun.
Always enjoy reading your blogs. Been a few years since we been back on Island so it is nice to keep up.
Always lovely to hear from you Alison…..
