This week we had an odyssey in Rock Sound ! I had to drive down on Saturday to pick up some of Rudge’s pills from the vet at Noah’s Ark Animal Centre and asked Bob if he would like to join me on the road. The answer was a resounding yes and so off we went….
Now Dan has told me many times about a couple of his favorite haunts there – first we decided to have lunch at Sammy’s Place – Bob had been there before but I had never been so it was all new to me. The staff were friendly and very efficient. What a surprise it was when as we went in a lovely lady said to me that she followed the blog and loved how it kept her in touch with what was happening in Eleuthera. Debra and Bill were staying in Tarpum Bay – they are regular long time visitors and are from Las Vegas and it was great to have a chat with them. Sorry that I didn’t get a picture of you Debra and Bill !
Anyway lunch was quickly served – I chose baked chicken with mac and cheese and coleslaw and everything was delicious. So good was the mac’n cheese that I took an extra portion home with me. Sometimes it is a bit too ‘solid’ for my liking but this was absolutely perfect. The chicken was tender and perfectly cooked and the coleslaw with just a tang of lime juice and not sweet as it sometimes can be. I thoroughly enjoyed it and cleared my plate !
Bob had breaded shrimp with fries and coleslaw and again it was all lovely. A beer each and the bill was under $50 !!!!! Service was not included but it was still a bargain by any stretch of the imagination….
Also wanted to mention that Debra said the chicken wings were the best at Sammy’s Place …..
Dan has also told me so many times that we need to try Hall’s Foodmarket and with directions from Bill off we went. I had a good browse around and bought a few bits from there – the prices were very good and I will return.
I had no idea just how big Rock Sound is – there are multiple roads and I had never been on any of them – and all that after 20 years of living here. Still it’s never too late for a bit of exploring ……
It was great to find these new to me spots and it felt like a proper adventure ! I also ventured in to Eleuthera Home Center in Tarpum Bay. This has just celebrated a year of being open and again it was another first time visit for me. It is a general store with all sorts of household goods. Prices look very good and I highly recommend stopping off in Tarpum Bay to have a look around. It is on the left hand side as you drive south – just going up the hill as you head out of Tarpum Bay.
By the way – the picture at the top is taken in Governors Harbour – not Rock Sound – even though the blog is about Rock Sound. I didn’t want you all driving yourselves crazy trying to figure out where in Rock Sound the picture was taken ……
Bob asked me if I was going to comment on the US election and I said absolutely not – but here I am saying something. The world has become divisive and intolerant generally and the US is no exception. As citizens of the world I believe that we all need to make an effort to be more tolerant and even interested in very different beliefs to our own – Eckhart Tolle wrote years ago – Accept it as if you chose it – not an easy one but we can all search for the light to guide us through these difficult times . This will have different paths for everyone but we all need to find a route through challenging situations – whether they are personal just to us or much wider in implications.
Wishing you love, compassion and finding your path towards the light at the end of the tunnel…..
We had a lovely evening at our house with Amanda and her daughter Kathryn – we met them when we first came here – and just like that Kathryn has become a beautiful , interesting 25 year old woman !
And finally pictures from Sunday lunchtime at The Potlatch Club – seared tuna salad for me and a burger for Bob….
Sending love and light to you all – have a good weekend.

Kathy,
It was great meeting you and Bob at Sammy’s!
Appreciate your review of Potlach Club too. That is on our agenda to try for lunch one of these days.
Best regards,
Debra and Bill.
Great to meet you too – you should definitely try Potlatch – very different price point to Sammy’s – but everywhere is a different price point to Sammy’s !
Thanks again for the post! Only 13 weeks till our return to Eleuthera. Love getting your updates!.

And counting down !
Hi Kathy! Interesting blog! I cannot believe the changes in Eleuthera. Loved hearing about the trip to Rock Sound. Interesting eats, as well. When you and Bob are at Potlatch; I wonder if you ever see Hans? Best always!
Yes we o see Hans sometimes – he works so hard ! Take care …..
Good morning Kathy, thanks for the great tour of Rock Sound, especially the review of Sammy’s Place. I hope to get the Dan Rock Sound tour on my next visit. I would be remiss if I didn’t thank you for sharing my harrowing “ferry ride” to Gregory Town from the Glass Bridge in mid October. I thank Chris, the ferry Captain for getting us there with no hiccups. It was quite the Eleuthera adventure! I recall my “ferry ride” to Harbour Island with Frank years ago….not the same LOL! Things have been crazy here since my return from GHB, eldercare, politics and and the rest is history. Thank you for the Eckhart Tolle quote, that will be my new mantra. Thank you for the time you take for this blog. Thank you and a big hug for Bob.
Lovely to hear from you Tracey – glad the quote resonated with you. See you soon we hope xx
