Last week Bob and I were invited to the committal of a time capsule just beside Hatchet Bay Caves.
This time capsule will be opened in 25 years – to celebrate Independence for the Bahamas. The idea was first mooted at the time of the 50th celebrations for Bahamian Independence so it will be opened for the 75th annual Independence Celebrations.

The capsule contains copies of the Eleutheran newspaper , and items from each of the settlements from Savannah Sound up to Hatchet Bay. It is a great idea and the children from the local schools were told that of course they would be the ones involved in opening it up in the future. It made me think about what I would put in a time capsule……

The ceremony was really a pleasure to be present at – speeches were kept brief and very much to the point in hand. Local children sang a couple of songs – very well performed – and were a credit to their schools. All in all it was a lovely low key affair but had an important part to play in the history of the island.
This week we have played host to a group of 11 florists who have come in from Nashville Tennessee to do the flowers for a wedding on Saturday. The wedding is for our friends Justin and Lindy – from Texas – and it promises to be a lavish affair. There will be plenty about it in next week’s blog but it is lovely to give a behind the scenes look at the preparation involved. The florists flew in on Monday, the flowers arrived from Miami on Tuesday and everyone started unboxing the flowers and getting them into 120 5 gallon buckets. Our garage is packed with glorious white flowers and the space has been eaten up ! The garage fortunately has an air-conditioning unit so it is keeping the blooms nice and cool – plus of course we have a back up generator should the power go out – heaven forbid !
I am very excited to see the finished results – take a look at the glorious pictures on Mary Love’s website – click on the link below for Rosemary & Finch.

Mary Love Richardson is the owner of Rosemary & Finch and is a really joyful happy leader of her team. It was apparent from the get go that the challenges of a project like this in Eleuthera were in safe hands and that all the team were going to have a great time doing their work as well…..

On Sunday last week we had a lunch at Potlatch with dear friends John and Judy. They first rented Tops House 10 years ago and stayed on at Yellow House during the Covid lockdown. We see them every year when they come back and we laugh and reminisce about the times we have spent together. Friendships like this are a precious gift that we treasure and celebrate whenever we can…..

And finally some sad news. Many of you I’m sure will have met Marc Coeffic at Paint Paradise in Palmetto Point. He died this week ….. He had not been well for quite a while .
Marc was a terrific and talented photographer – he had a great eye. We will always be grateful to him for taking the photos at our 25th Wedding Anniversary party back in December 2019. He captured the mood of the party really well and got us some terrific shots. He also always took the pictures at the Eleuthera All That Jazz Festival and produced some amazing pictures. It is a legacy that will live on.
May you rest in peace Marc……

And so dear friends – that’s it for another week. Take care of yourselves and those you love – and those who may be in need of a good friend ……
