This week – news of an honor for Bob and a report of the big wedding here.

Firstly,  last week the Chamber of Commerce in Rock Sound hosted the annual Business Outlook meeting and Bob was honored by the Chamber for his contributions over the years. The plaque of appreciation reads – ” in recognition of your invaluable contributions as a founding and long serving board member , designer and architect of and donor to the Eleuthera Chamber of Commerce. With deep appreciation we honor your commitment and lasting impact ”

Being presented with his award by Clay Sweeting – our Member of Parliament and Minister of Works and Family Island Affairs and Audrey Tynes – Executive Director of Eleuthera Chamber of Commerce

It came as a complete surprise to Bob – although I did know about it. I snuck down to Rock Sound to be there to get some pictures of him receiving the award. He looks very serious in this picture – but believe me he was smiling a lot at the shock and surprise of it…..

Recognition of service is a lovely thing and I am very happy that the Chamber took this opportunity to honor Bob, Lionel Fernander and Joan Albury as well.

Buckets of flowers lined up on our driveway at 6.15 am on the morning of the wedding

Now on to the wedding of Justin and Lindy – well what a fabulous series of events ! As you will probably already have guessed both Bob and I are exhausted by the 3 consecutive days of celebration that we were a part of. I don’t think I would be capable of writing this if we have attended everything that had been organized – having fun and celebrating really takes it out of you ……

Welcome dinner at Tippy’s on Friday evening

On Friday night there was the welcome dinner at Tippy’s which they had taken over for the night. There was a live band  and a wonderful atmosphere. We saw quite a few people we had met before in Texas and were introduced to some we had spoken to on the phone but never seen in person. Of course everyone was very friendly and we met plenty of their friends and family from both the UK where Justin is from and also Texas where Lindy is from.

Cecil (Boot), Natarvia , Jennilee from our end with Heidi and Aiden from the Texas end – all having a great time …

On Saturday there was the actual wedding itself which was held on the bluff at Jack’s Bay. It is a spectacular setting – very beautiful and dramatic – and the wedding bower was set up in the best possible spot. Bob and our chaps had built the wedding bower – it is in a kit form for easy transportation and assembly on site – and the team of florists went down on that morning to decorate it with stunning fresh flowers. It was a windy day and they secured everything very well so not a single flower came loose.

Champagne and hors d’oeuvres were served prior to the ceremony then the actual wedding itself took place. It was a beautiful service and the bride and groom looked absolutely stunning.

Champagne and hors d’oeuvres ?
This tuna was divine

On leaving Jack’s Bay I found I had a puncture – what a pain – but suddenly there were 3 employees  of Jack’s Bay who came in like knights in shining armor and changed the wheel and got us on our way in about 20 minutes. Big thanks to Jackson, Leonardo and Mike who made a problem just fade away ….

Definitely our knights in shining armor

Then it was home and quick change before the sit down meal in the restaurant at The Potlatch Club. The restaurant looked fabulous after the team from Rosemary & Finch had worked their magic. The evening continued down in the marquee adjacent to the outside bar which was again beautifully set off by the floral decorations.

The interior of the Fig Tree restaurant looked fabulous

Speeches were made and tears were shed then Bob and I took our leave just before the Harbour Island Junkanoo group did their rush. I understand the night finally ended in the early hours ……

This tuna appetizer was so tasty ….

Sunday there was a barbecue at Lush Life – which we did go to – and then on Monday over 70 people were taken up to Spanish Wells and off on a boat trip, seeing the pigs, the turtles and the sandbars. 4 boats in total so more of a flotilla really …..

The bride and groom at the dinner – Lindy really did look sensational- and so did Justin !!

The island definitely worked it’s magic on the visitors – the beauty of what they saw and very importantly the kindness and friendliness of the people they met here have so many of them saying that they can’t wait to come back .

It was a beautiful affair even though it is taking Bob and I a good while to recover from having all that fun !

And so dear friends I will be back next week. Take care of yourselves and feel the joy of people around you if you are going to a celebration – and spread a little of your own too…..
