Bahamas Wellness in Rock Sound and Parties !

This week I am going to tell you about Bahamas Wellness Ribbon Cutting ceremony in Rock Sound and then parties.

On Friday Bob and I joined others for the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Bahamas Wellness Center in Rock Sound. It is a comparatively small center compared to the one in Palmetto Point and Spanish Wells. Of course there is also the center in Lower Bogue. 4 sites is an amazing achievement here in Eleuthera and as I have said before all credit to the enduring vision of Dr Arlington Lightbourn who has achieved a huge win in the last few years. None of this is done without a lot of blood sweat and tears both by him and the fantastic team he has around him. So Emergency Care is what they specialize in although with the Xray machine , mammogram machine and the blood analysis center in Palmetto Point so much of our health care needs are covered.

We wish them all every success in this endeavor – do check out the affordable coverage programs that they have – don’t wait until you are in an emergency situation – be prepared.

And now on to celebrations – and parties ……

Drinks in the Sand Bar – Bob, Donald, Jeffrey and me

We went along on Saturday evening to a birthday party for our dear friend Carol who along with her husband Keith have a property on Banks Road. The Saturday party was held at The Potlatch Club and started with drinks in the fabulous Sand Bar. This was a great opportunity to great old friends as well as new ones – many guests had flown in specially for the celebrations – both family and friends……

Such a beautiful setting for dinner
The birthday girl Carol is second from the left. Keith is next to her….

Then at 7 we all went to the poolside area beside the Fig Tree Restaurant to enjoy a beautiful sit down dinner. There was entertainment while we were dining and then live singing by Julian – an old friend of Carol’s – who is a great raconteur and singer based in Nassau. It turns out that he has known Carol for a good few years – she is a seasoned and brilliant party thrower – and Julian has sung at parties she has previously hosted.

So by nearly 10 0clock Bob and I decided to leave – a late night for the Colmans as anyone who knows us will tell you. Well within about 10 minutes of us leaving poor Carol tripped and fell – the ambulance for Bahamas Wellness Center was called and she was taken to the clinic in Palmetto Point. She was x-rayed and it was found that she had shattered her hip. She spent the night in the clinic – thank goodness with pain medication – before being flown out on Sunday to Boca Raton to be admitted to the hospital there. On Monday she underwent a hip replacement operation from which she is currently recuperating.

So come Monday – which was Carol’s actual birthday – an amazing 85 – there was another party planned – to be held at Snaresbrook Manor – where Carol’s guests were staying. At first on Sunday the party was going to be cancelled but as all the food etc had already been bought and prepped it was decided to go ahead and have the party in Carol’s honor.

This was the first lady brought on by the fire dancers

Horatio Alexander did the catering and I must tell you it was fabulous. Plenty of freshly rolled sushi followed by lots of food to graze on. Some extremely tasty dishes which were in a constant supply.

So pleased that I managed to get this picture !

Then came the fire dancers – I must admit I was not expecting them to be as brilliant as they were. They gave a fabulous show and then I was hauled in to be the token rookie ! It was great fun and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. There is a short video but I can’t post videos on the blog so I am not sure that you will ever get to see it – but it really did happen. I did well in the audition but will have to work on being able to do the splits agin before I can secure my place on the team !!!!

After that came the Junkanoo Rush and it was absolutely fantastic. They came through the house and out onto the veranda and everybody was caught up in the excitement of it. It truly was a joyous time and videos were sent to Carol to watch in her hospital bed.

This does not come anywhere near to capturing the atmosphere – it was hypnotic

This woman clearly throws the best parties – whether she is there or not. Of course the parties were a year in the planning and that is the secret – planning everything well in advance and paying attention to every detail.

Keith and Jeffrey back to back in the rush

Carol we are all so very sorry for the accident – and the moral of the story is that our lives can change dramatically in a second. Cherish the time you have when you are with friends and family just as Carol was doing when a small trip changed the course of the weekend. Thank heavens that the emergency care was here when it was needed. Support the clinic and pray that you are never going to need it.

  1. Wow! It is so great to hear of all the exciting hospital clinic news and procedures that are conveniently available on the Island. Makes life so much less stressful and what a community.
I was so sad for your friend Carol and her shattering her hip (on such a wonderful night too) . Thankfully it sounds like she is on the mend and hopefully will be back for the sun and sand to help her fully recover.
Thanks for a great read! Wendy

  2. Carol it’s Pam and Fred, Jeffrey sent this to us and it’s great!
Loved seeing you and Bob and look forward to next year partying with all of you.
    Big hugs, Pam and Fred
