Yes this week news that Brian the wanderer has returned and other bits of news.
Brian – our 4 year old female cat – had been missing in action for a couple of weeks. She was up at Wykee and used to come back from her wanderings early every evening when the workmen had left, for her food. I would often see her and pet her but for a couple of weeks I did not see her although almost always her food was gone by the next morning.

I was getting increasingly worried about her and so I was hugely relieved when she was there on Sunday afternoon when I went to put her food out. But she was frighteningly skinny and looked pretty sad. Also she was slightly dragging her right rear leg behind her. So I have taken her to the vet – Dr Italia Sands at Noah’s Ark Animal Center – she checked her over – no temperature problems but definitely something is up with her right hip. So she is scheduled to have X-rays. I will let you know what happens…

She is with us in the house we are renting now – amazingly for a feral cat she has always meticulously used a litter tray as well as going outside – but until we know what the story is she is here with us being fed all sorts of treats as often as she will take them and not going outside.
The trials and tribulations of having pets can be many but of course it is worth it for the love and affection they give us…..

Speaking of wildlife, we had a visit from a tarantula who parked himself – or herself – outside the front door on a bench. I got a great picture and if anyone knows what type it is then please let me know. We thought as it hadn’t moved an inch for at least 18 hours that it may be dead – but by the next morning it was gone. We have had them around before but not for good long while….. All part of life here on the island.

We had a treat on Saturday – after the last yoga class of the season at The Levy Preserve with Monique Carroll – Bob asked me if I would like to go up to The Cove for lunch. I had thought that they were already closed but no – they didn’t close until September 1st. So we had a delicious lunch that was totally unplanned for. Often the best kind. They are closing for 6 weeks and will be open on October 17th.

On Sunday we had another delicious lunch at the home of our good friend Amanda and her daughter Lauren. Another time when I was so busy enjoying myself that I forgot to take any pictures – but believe me that it was a great spread. Beautiful tender shrimp cooked in a delicious sauce served with pasta and a salad. I had already eaten a good amount of cheese and crackers as an appetizer so I was very full by the time I ate some fabulous chocolate cake – full or what ? But as you know my philosophy is enjoy it if it there in front of you because there will be enough days of pretty boring everyday food.
Amanda served us a delicious local liqueur which they sell in the new Bristol Wines store – I can’t remember the name but I will get some next week and try to remember to tell you about it !

We have had a couple of days of very heavy rain – much needed for both the gardens and the water cisterns. It is hard to get pictures of it but I continue to try ……
Okay – that’s it for this week – have a good weekend and take good care of yourselves.
Happy Birthday to Larry whose birthday was on September 4th – and wishing happy birthday to my sister Anne whose birthday is September 10th ……
