Wishing you a Happy New Year 2024 and Frigates !

And so dear friends Christmas is over for another year and we wish you a Happy New Year for 2024. Amazing how quickly a year can go but a lot happened for us in the past 12 months.

New Year’s Eve has never been a favorite night of the year for me – we have had some good nights but to be honest the pressure of having to have a good time just because it is NewYears Eve leaves me with a sense of dread ! Personally I am perfectly happy to be tucked up in bed with a good book or magazine before 10 ! – well sometime before 10 actually…..

For those of you who do celebrate it – have a wonderful time – and for those of you , and I know there are plenty, who feel like I do then enjoy whatever you choose to do or not do.

Some of the lovely staff at Frigates Governors Harbour

Now news of Frigates in Governors Harbour. Some of you know may know of Frigates in Rock Sound – well they have taken over the site that was Hot Buns – right here in the centre of Governors Harbour. They are still keeping the premises and restaurant in Rock Sound – this is an additional site – lucky for us. They are open from 7am until 11pm – for breakfast lunch and dinner. Bob and I ate there last Friday evening and had some delicious salmon, garlic mash and fresh asparagus. They are still finding their feet – no written menu when we were there but another choice of restaurant is very welcome. Do give Gino and Lisa and their team a try – you won’t be sorry …..

Oh that Christmas Day lobster !!

On Christmas Day we celebrated with our good friends Marcie and Martin Weber. They hosted a fabulous dinner – catered by Francis and Gina Plakaris from the Front Porch and it was a fabulous selection . There was steak for the meat eaters, lobster tails which were so tender and delicious, stone crab claws , turkey, stuffing and gravy, vegetables, potatoes, stuffed tomatoes and I know I have forgotten other things as well. Overeat ? – moi ?? Yes of course ! Well it was Christmas wasn’t it ….. Followed by mince pies and Grand Marnier flavored whipped cream. Enough already ……

Stone crab claws – yes please
Such a feast…..

There were 12 adults and the most scrumptious 10 month old baby – Jack – Martin and Marcie’s grandson. It was a truly joyous and relaxed celebration and we were so happy to be included .  It was such a different day to our usual Christmas Day and was absolutely perfect. I did have a monstrous long lie in that morning – after walking Rudge at 6.30 – some mindless scrolling on Instagram as well as reading new magazines – entirely different to spending the whole day in the kitchen cooking a feast. Of course I did miss Mum – but by not trying to do the same thing as usual – but without her – the day had an entirely new rhythm which was lovely. Thanks again to Marcie and Martin for so very thoughtfully including us – so appreciated.

The gorgeous Jack
So sorry Marcie – the only picture I had with you in it

I hope that you managed to have a day that suited you and yours…..

The weather was not great over the holiday – but today – Wednesday – as I write this, the sun is shining, the sky is blue and the visitors here have big smiles on their faces….

Such a lovely gathering

As I have said before we wish you a Happy and Peaceful New Year – savor the good times and find the courage to weather the hard times that are an inevitable part of life. With love from Kathy and Bob xx
