This week I feel the gentle rhythm of life here in Eleuthera. Sometimes it is good to acknowledge and enjoy the quiet gentle times – even if the weather is very rough and blustery. The tides are high in the afternoon when we walk the dogs on French Leave Beach and the seas are very rough and choppy. No taking a dip at the moment. The currents and rip tides are strong and it is important to respect that the sea can be a ruthless force…..

The stormy weather surprised us with its strength – when the sun is shining and the sky is blue it is easy to forget the force of the winds. We came back home on Sunday afternoon after a lovely brunch at a friend’s house up in Rainbow Bay to find a tree brought down by the wind. It was a young healthy tree – well able to whip with the wind – but not this time !

Now on to the great brunch we enjoyed at Edgardo’s house in Double Bay. As you all know we love to eat at lunch time and then forgo an evening meal – and there was plenty to enjoy all spread out for us. Edgardo had found a very talented young woman to do the catering – she has an independent set up offering chef services and she is good !

Her name is Chef Yvette Philacie and she is based in Governors Harbour. She specializes in Asian Fusion food and also makes great Caribbean Sushi. Her presentation is very good and she has a lovely range of dishes to offer.

From the pictures below you can see the selection we all enjoyed. There was coconut shrimp, lobster skewers , grouper bites, sushi and a very attractive dish of beef tenderloin served in a small jar with garlic mashed potato. And finally guava duff for those with a sweet tooth ! Absolutely delicious and a lovely treat for everyone – not least Edgardo who didn’t have to do anything ….

I will definitely be using her services myself in the future and of course I will report back at the time. Her contact details are here – tel – 242 428 8987 email – philacie23@gmail.com  She is very professional and had a handout for people at the ready for anyone wanting to use her services.

The house – Casa Libre – is available for booking on Airbnb – click on the link to view it

It is right on the Atlantic Ocean and the seas were pretty spectacular on the day we were there. Of course I didn’t get any great pictures of the waves breaking – it would have meant not eating and socializing and just waiting for that perfect shot – but I know that you get the idea ! I have written before about the trade off  between getting good pictures and actually truly experiencing the place and the people you are with……

Dan and Larry were there as was dear Tracey who told me the horrible story of her landing at North Eleuthera Airport , hearing the Glass Window Bridge was closed because of the weather . She was taken by taxi to just slightly north of the bridge , then she had to clamber across rocks to get into a small boat along with a good few other people – and all their luggage to be taken round to Gregory Town. A pretty frightening experience to begin your trip with don’t you think ? Anyway – Tracey obviously lived to tell the tale and I know she will turn it into an amusing anecdote – because she is a great teller of tales….

A quick note that Island Farm is going to re-open on Monday 28th October – looking forward to that …..

Okay dear friends – that’s all for this week. Stay safe and warm for those of you in colder climes,  and enjoy the new autumn season.

And finally – last takeout of grouper fingers and fries from Sunset Inn before they close next Wednesday – they were delicious !
