A Bit of This and That and a Lot of Rain !

A bit of this , a bit of that and plenty of rain this past week. Tuesday was a full moon and the tides have been exceptionally high – they are always a bit higher around a full moon but these have been crazy.

Dan took some great pictures that show just how high the water came on French Leave Beach …… We haven’t been able to go in the water for at least a week because it has been so stormy and rough but the dogs still charge on in every day. We have also had large amounts of rain which are always welcome unless you are trying to do work on the exterior of your home renovation !

Looking south on French Leave Beach – anyone who knows this beach will see how incredibly high the tide has come to leave a small ledge like this

Anyway the weather is what it is and there is nothing we can do apart from work around it. And the island desperately needed it……

Our dogs love it no matter what is happening …

So you have heard me talk about the lovely Monique Carroll who teaches the yoga classes – well she does some great pictures and reels of her doing her yoga practice at the beach . Last Saturday at French Leave Beach a rogue wave came rushing up into the sea oats – which are above the high water line – and snatched Monique’s phone and tripod. It is lost of course – so poor Monique is temporarily without a phone.  What a nightmare, we all rely on our phones so much – how did it creep up on us that so much of our lives is there on our phones ?

Rudge looking very pleased with himself !

Fortunately for me I had other ways of contacting her – so a restorative yoga class with her and with great friend Amanda went ahead this week. I wrote earlier in the year about another session of restorative yoga with Monique and I decided to treat myself to another session.  Read below the description of it and tell me you wouldn’t want to do it!

This is so calming as a beginning part of the session

“Restorative yoga is a restful practice that encourages you to slow down and open your body through passive stretching. Some restorative yoga classes have participants barely moving, holding only a few postures.

Lovely long slow stretching

Restorative yoga is a completely different experience than most other styles of yoga. Read on to learn more about restorative yoga, and why it’s so critical for your body and mind to slow down and embrace the power of rest.”

Meditative….

Here is a link to the rest of the article …..

All I can say is that we both felt very good after the session and will definitely be doing it again.

Monique took these pictures with my camera – thanks so much Monique …. And the pictures are at the Levy Preserve Pavilion – such a great location ….

A little balancing fun….

Brian has recovered very well from her operation and is now going outside every day. Of course I was very worried the first time I let her out as we are not living in our own house yet – but she was absolutely fine and continues to improve. Her fur is growing back now so she looks a lot more dignified as well !

I am happily planning our trip in November to the UK – booking hotels, thinking about restaurants and planning to see family and friends – plus maybe just a smidge of shopping ! I have managed to find our winter clothes and decided I needed to get my feet used to wearing closed in shoes. I wore what I thought were my most comfortable ones but finished up with blisters on both heels – note to self – wear socks !!

Okay dear readers , have a lovely weekend and take care of yourselves, loved ones and anyone in need you come across…… A little kindness can make someone else’s day as we all have experienced.

Namaste – the end of a wonderful class….

Lives on phones.. I look forward to Thursday morning starts with your news! I have comments on all points mentioned in your blog. Dan took nice pics of the dogs and beach! Send pics of Brian next time. The full harvest moon here in Hadley was so bright the autumn leaf colors were visible at night! I am glad you are experiencing restorative yoga which l have practiced for over 30 years. You have some nice supports for doing so with Monique. We are not surprised by what a “rogue” wave can do! I was standing in shallows at the Venus pool six years ago when a huge one lept over the rocks behind me and filled the puddle with sea water that acted like quick sand pulling me down to my knees and twisting my second toe into broken pieces. It was a long painful walk back to Tippy’s parking lot. You can back up a phone but you can’t get a new toe!
=^-^= BTW you both look swell. Keep it up. Same shoe situation here…HAH

Thanks Donna for a lovely long comment – and very happy to hear about your yoga practice ! With regards to rogue waves – it makes you realize how cruel and unforgiving the ocean can be….. Take care x
