Hello dear readers – yes the rain finally came as June began. As some of you know – if you have been paying attention – we have had virtually no rain for months. It reached a dangerous stage last week with a horrible bush fire on the Banks Road just north of Palmetto Point. I mentioned it last week but didn’t really make clear the severity of it.

The Governors Harbour Fire truck under the command of Ricardo Pinder and two fire trucks from Palmetto Point under the Men of Faith organization spent 3 days getting it all safe and under control. The men and women who operate these trucks are all volunteers and we are seriously indebted to them all for their selfless dedication and commitment . When you have a job and family that you have to leave at such short notice and it goes on for 3 days it is a serious situation…..

This is just a small part close to the road – it goes way back…..

The cause of these fires is often unknown but if it is a case that reckless burning of garden waste – which is illegal here – is the cause then many people agree that large financial penalties should be levied.

Our very grateful thanks to Ricardo Pinder and his team and the Men of Faith teams as well.  They do a fantastic job and so often do not get the recognition that they deserve.

So the rain which finally came on Sunday evening and Monday in Governors Harbour was very welcome by many people. It is a shame for people who are here on vacation and I do really mean that – but it was heavy enough  – to damp down the last remnants of the fire.

It also meant that dust was laid and gardens got the watering they needed as well as putting much needed water in to cisterns. The rain was so heavy and the wind was so strong that came with it that it took down our magnificent century plant – thankfully blowing it away from the house. Bob had only said last week that maybe we should get it chopped down – but I said – oh let’s just leave it a bit longer – sorry Bob !

Salad or what ? – art ?

On Sunday we took a drive up to The Cove again for another fabulous ( large ) lunch ….. The food is so good there and it is a very stylish and elegant place to visit. The staff are very well trained and as I have mentioned before Joel the sushi chef is so kind and accommodating in preparing traditional sushi for us. This time it was tuna roll with seaweed salad topping.

Brilliant picture – thank you Jane x

Dan and Larry are about to take a trip to the US for a memorial gathering up in Vermont for Dan’s sister Kathy – I will get a couple of pictures from him after the event as many of you knew and loved Kathy. She was such a beautiful soul and is deeply missed by many.

Anyway to get to the point of this story – D & L were going to a gala red carpet event in Hartford CT for the Tony awards on the way up to Vermont. They had their special outfits all organized and then got notice that the gala was cancelled ! How annoying – there is very little chance these days to get all gussied up for a special event and to then have it cancelled is so disappointing – not to mention infuriating. So we all decided that they should dress up and come to our house for us to take pictures of them looking very stylish and smart.

Don’t you think that they do ? Dan’s outfit is a Japanese kimono and he really looks very stylish and dapper. He still knows how to rock a good outfit and his years of living and working in Japan have given him a great feeling for Japanese culture.

Larry looks fabulous in his frock coat and dress shirt with a great pin instead of a bow tie. Smart black trousers and shoes complete the look.

It was a really fun time and Jane and I both took pictures of them – Jane took some brilliant black and white ones of them but I had to put in one that shows the beautiful brocade obi – belt – that Dan wore along with his red shoes….

Love this one of Bob and Larry together…..

We also had a fantastic curry with Eileen and Ian last week. It was so good and of course I ate way too much. They entertained us at their house and we had a very enjoyable evening catching up with each other. The joy of friendship is a wonderful gift and we continue to appreciate and be grateful for this treasure……

Do you think I was looking forward to tucking in to this lovely first plateful !

Okay everybody – that’s it for this week. Jane leaves on Friday to go back to the UK so I will be moping about for a while – but then looking at all the pictures we have of things we did together should cheer me up. It is such a delight to have her here – as I said before – doing nothing that special together but relishing her company and beautiful smiling face.

Jane has taken many of the pictures you have seen in the blog over the last few weeks – she has a great eye for a picture – much like our late father who was a very good photographer. Thank you Jane xxx

Take care and have a great weekend….

Beautiful sunrise will hopefully take your eye away from the orange dumpster ….

  1. Larry and Dan! These pictures do justice to their distinctive and dapper attire. I love it. Thank you for showing us their other selves. =^-^=

Regarding illegal trash burning. One can frequently smell it when folks burn in GBH. Yuck…

Don’t they look great ! Of course all the garbage at the dump is burned so it means some people think it’s okay to do it themselves. But it really isn’t …..
