Dear Brian’s saga continues.  Our 4 year old cat it turns out has dislocated her femur – as X-rays taken by Noah’s Ark Animal Centre showed rather graphically !

So this week I took her on a flight into Nassau for surgery to repair the damage. Dr Italia Sands had recommended The Palmdale Veterinary Centre which used to be owned by Dr Peter Bizzell. Many of you will remember the days before we had a permanent vet here on island. Dr Bizzell used to come over every month or six weeks to attend to the needs of us all here. Well Dr Jade Greensword was one of the vets that used to come here and she has taken over the Nassau practice.

Poor Brian !

It was such a treat to see a familiar face and know that Brian was going to be in the best possible hands. She has not appeared to be in that much pain – she was still jumping up and down on the sofa and going up and down the stairs. I was more than a little nervous about the cost but was very pleasantly surprised at the quote . The total is going to be around $750 which is incredibly good I think.

So on Tuesday morning I had to get the 7.35 flight into Nassau – out of North Eleuthera. The flight from Governors Harbour is an hour later and would mean we were too late to get her there for the surgery. So I set the alarm for 4.50am – to leave the house in a taxi by 5.25 in order to arrive at the airport by 6.30. Of course the flight was 30 minutes late so that was frustrating but I had to stay calm as there was nothing I could do about it.

Brian behaved so well – I was told in no uncertain terms that I had to take her out of the carrier and walk through the scanner with her in my arms – and let me tell you I was worried that she would scramble off – but she behaved perfectly and back in the carrier she went …. She had a couple of wobbly bits but actually settled down really quickly and just relaxed on the flight !

We jumped in a taxi with a lovely young woman who took us to the surgery – and yes of course the traffic was horrible but all was well once we arrived – I relaxed once I had dropped Brian into the safe and very capable hands of Dr Jade. My lovely taxi driver Tameca then drove me out to The Island House Hotel where I ate a great breakfast , chatted with Anya who does all the marketing and events who I met a good few years ago when she rented one of the Peach House apartments.  I felt generally restored and rejuvenated before flying back to Governors Harbour in the afternoon.

The Island House Hotel is just as lovely as ever – it is a great location and a really pleasant place to sit and relax and catch up on blog writing !

I am picking Brian up on Thursday – the day most of you will be reading this – so say a quick prayer for me that the Bahamasair flight will be on time !

Last week we had some torrential rain – much needed of course but not fun when you have to drive to Rock Sound and back two days running . Needless to say it has opened up a great deal of the pot holes that had previously been filled in so do be careful when driving here – some of them are pretty deep and can do a lot of damage to your tires and wheels….

We enjoyed a lovely evening last week with Dan and Larry at Sunset Inn – I still say Miss Jay makes the best fries on the island !

Lovely time all together ….

Other news is that 700 Wines and Spirits is moving location. At the moment they are on Queens Highway right here in town – and they are moving around the corner to where CIBC First Caribbean used to be. Again – loads more parking which is always a help ….

All looking good this way…..

So that’s all for this week. The beach at French Leave is looking much better but we are going to need an extremely high tide to wash out all the seaweed that came right up to the highest tide line.

Same day, same beach, different angle !

Take care and look out for those opportunities to have unexpectedly meaningful conversations with strangers who you cross paths with…..
