Hello dear readers – over to Dr Claire Verden this week for news of the Educators For Eleuthera Summer Camp 2025.
“Hard to believe but we are just under six weeks away from our annual summer camp program in Governor’s Harbour. As a quick refresher for new readers to the blog: we are a registered nonprofit organization that provides free camp programming for children in Governor’s Harbour. With support from the Ministry of Education and District Superintendent Mr. McCoy, along with school Principal Mrs. McPhee-Pinder, we are fortunate to be able to run our camp from the primary school in Governor’s Harbour.
Each day the children receive instruction from our highly qualified volunteer teachers in the form of academic enrichment- we aim to maintain the skills they have gained during the school year and have fun at the same time. In addition to their math and language arts instruction we provide arts and crafts, music and games. Each child also receives a healthy snack and lunch each day. We support approximately 75 children per day and see over 100 different children over the course of the summer.
This is where we need your help please dear readers! As previously mentioned, all our teachers volunteer their time to come and teach; the only people who get paid at camp are our local high school teacher aides, our college student returning home for the summer to lead her own classroom and a local woman who provides transportation for some of our campers with disabilities who would not otherwise be able to attend and who also prepares the lunches on a daily basis for us.
Without your generous support we would not be able to hold the camp and make the summer so memorable for the children. We have big dreams for our campers this summer and plan to provide more field trips, take home projects and visits from the ice cream truck and other special events. Every little bit helps us with our plans; our supplies and materials lists are ready to go and every contribution makes our dreams for the children a reality. “
