Celebrations all round as Eleuthera Markets is open as of yesterday ! Yippee …….

Oh dear readers – it is fabulous  – I was dizzy with excitement at so much of what I saw. The fresh fruit and vegetables are beautiful and that is where a lot of my interest was focused – and the prices seem pretty good. Some things are quite cheap while other things are more expensive but generally it was a very pleasant surprise price wise. The range of goods is impressive and the place was absolutely packed when Jane and I went in.

They are open 7 days a week – 8am – 7pm most days and I think 8am – 4pm on Sundays. This is a game changer for Governors Harbour – to have a market like this so beautifully stocked on a bi-weekly basis is such a treat…..

I am sure I will discover all sorts of things I missed on our first visit and of course I will keep on telling you of new items that I have found as time goes on….

It is clean, spacious and an absolute delight to shop in ! The staff are very helpful and friendly and it is lovely to see familiar faces there as well as new ones.

We can all be very happy at the opening of Eleuthera Market and will be enjoying the convenience of such a great store. Congratulations and thanks to AML Foods – you have made a lot of people very happy !

Bob, Jane and I went up to The Cove the other Sunday for a fabulous lunch. We had a really delicious selection of food and it was a joy to see the place so busy. It was Mother’s Day so it wasn’t surprising – but even so…..

So very tasty …..

We shared a salad , a sushi roll, some delicious calamari, a margherita flat bread  , and Bob had the Kobe beef burger. It was all so very tasty and we just about polished the lot off ! As I have said before it is a long drive there and back but it was totally worth it. I would love to eat there at night but unless we had a driver it would just be too far and too grueling a drive back in the dark. Maybe an overnight stay would be the answer !!

This is the tenderest and tastiest calamari …..
I love that the sushi chef Joel will make very plain traditional sushi for us – just how I love it….

This last Sunday Jane and I cooked a feast to share with Dan and Larry, their friend Sue who was visiting from New York and Dan’s brother in law Ray from Rainbow Bay. It was an early celebration of Dan’s birthday which is June 1st.

We cooked roast chicken with Jane’s homemade stuffing , roast potatoes and roast carrots, braised red cabbage , cauliflower gratin, and peas and Eleuthera grown green beans. With home made gravy as well ! And yes we were as full as it sounds as if we should be after all that. It takes a lot of work over 2 days to produce this meal – but once in a blue moon it is worth it …..

It is a great joy to all sit down together and enjoy a meal like this – a bit like a Christmas or Thanksgiving without the hullaballoo associated with those holidays. And in the middle of May as well !

Not a good picture of any of us but you get the idea of a full table !

The next day we cooked up bubble and squeak which for those of you who don’t know is all the leftovers chopped up and pan fried. Equally delicious but more sensible quantities….

This Saturday I am holding a garage sale at Sprawling Towers. It is from 10am until 1pm. Jane has helped me sort out a lot of what we will be selling – a motley collection of stuff but one man’s junk is another man’s treasure – right ?

Do feel free to come along if you fancy sorting through a load of stuff !!
