More Seasonal Closures in Eleuthera and a Party

Yes dear readers news this week of more seasonal closures here in Eleuthera as well as news of a party !

We enjoyed a lovely meal and get together with the Taglich clan this week at The Potlatch Club. It was on Monday night and the place was really busy and buzzing. There were a couple of biggish tables of people and a we heard of at least two people celebrating their birthdays that day.

It really was a delight to see so many people all gathered together and making the most of the last chances to enjoy the Potlatch Club. There was a real air of celebration and I think from most of the people there also a real sense of gratitude that we have such a lovely and special place on the island. They closed for the season on Tuesday 12th August and rest assured I will be letting you know when they are reopening.

I enjoyed a delicious pad thai with shrimp which I often have if it is on the menu. It was one of those occasions when I realized as we were leaving that I hadn’t taken a single picture – so in the moment and enjoying being with Mike, Claudia and friends and family that it never occurred to me to get my phone out and start snapping …..

We also enjoyed another birthday celebration on Saturday evening at La Bougainvillea. It was a surprise party for Dr Kim Young and a special 50th birthday celebration for her. Her assistant Waynesha did a fantastic job of organizing it all and more importantly keeping it all under wraps. La Bougainvillea did a great job and the staff were lovely. They will be staying open throughout the closed season for which we will be very grateful.

I had a really tasty mushroom and truffle oil risotto which as many of you will know is a great favorite of mine. Bob had grouper and many of the party had steaks – all seemed to go down very well.

A great gift of a karaoke microphone

Just as an aside I will tell you that there was also a children’s birthday party which had been going on until the evening. They were swimming in the pool and had a high old time. There was a birthday cake with bright pink icing on it which I didn’t see until we got home later. I must have stepped in some on the floor and it was all over the hem of my white very wide legged linen pants. And also it had brushed over my new suede loafers. I was really upset as I love these loafers ! I rinsed off my pants and immediately put them in the wash with a good treatment of oxi-clean. Well they came out perfectly thank goodness. And the shoes I managed to clean the tops of with a damp cloth – slightly discolored but not anything too bad. But the rubber soles were stained – if it does that to clothing and shoes what is it doing to the children and adults who are consuming it ? It was horrifying !

I just love this picture of Dr Andrea Culmer – who now works from the Mission Clinic in Tarpum Bay – with her brother Keddy

Earlier on Saturday – after yoga at the Levy Preserve , Bob and I took Rudge to Noah’s Ark Veterinary Center in Rock Sound. Rudge was due for his annual booster jab and his nails desperately needed clipping. Yes I know in theory I could do them myself but a) I couldn’t find the clippers right now if my life depended on it and b) I am very wary of doing it myself after I clipped one of his nails too short and made it bleed – all over the rug !! I was very concerned about both aspects of this and so I decided that I won’t be doing any more clipping in the future !  Dr Italia Sands and her team are lovely and very efficient and we are so grateful to have a permanent vet here on island.

Waiting to go in to see Dr Italia Sands ……

I remember well all the years when we only had the brilliant Dr Peter Bizell coming every couple of months. It was a worry that if an emergency happened then we were in a very vulnerable position. So thanks to Dr Italia and her lovely setup in Rock Sound.

Would you say he had a look of trepidation about him ?

Lastly news that you may have heard already – Bristol Wines are moving from Cupid’s Cay to the building that was where Frigates Restaurant used to be in Governors Harbour. It will be a great location for them with lots of parking – that was sometimes a problem on the Cay . They should be up and running by Friday 15th August. Of course there will be pictures to follow…..

Have a lovely weekend and take care of yourselves and each other .
