Yes dear readers – this is moving week for the Colmans so expect this to be a pretty short blog !

It has been a very busy time working with paint not arriving when it should and various other hold ups – but at least so far we have not had to contend with Hurricane Melissa like the poor souls in Jamaica and Cuba.

The anticipation of a hurricane is psychologically very difficult to deal with and unless you have been through it – it can be hard to understand. Having lived here through 2 pretty major hurricanes and a good few bad tropical storms , even though we knew that Melissa was not heading for us it was still a very worrying time because we knew what the people of Jamaica and Cuba had coming for them. And then living through the aftermath when there is such devastation and no power is both depressing and horrible. For so many people there will be no home left and starting again is very hard….

Bob up a ladder which always makes me nervous – but at least he has someone holding the ladder !

So just a quick update on our life here – trying to find what is wanted from a myriad of boxes is a bit of a nightmare – but to be honest Hurricane Melissa has put it all in perspective for me. So what if I can’t find the electric tea kettle – I have a saucepan and a cooktop where I can boil water for Bob’s cup of tea which is in the scheme of things a luxury. And so what if I can’t find our favorite towels – we have ones that will do.

Anyway enough of all that – here is a very quick rundown on a couple of things we have been up to.

Beautiful spread by Yvette of Caribbean Sushi

On Sunday we were invited by Edgardo to a brunch at his house in Rainbow Bay. The catering was done again by Yvette from Caribbean Sushi. It was a beautiful spread and it was lovely to catch up with people from the island that we haven’t seen for a while.

Back shots are not always the most exciting are they ?

I am cooking very little at the moment as I am so shattered by the end of the day. I am waking early and getting up around 5.30 so it’s not surprising I am too tired to cook anything very taxing ! Let’s just say that omelettes are coming in to their own ! A visit to Sunset Inn and La Bougainvillea have been a godsend – but Sunset Inn closes next Wednesday for their well deserved end of season break.

On Saturday night I managed to cook our old perennial favorite – fried eggs, home made fries – or as we call them chips , baked beans and fried mushrooms. It was delicious – a real bit of comfort food .

Proper comfort food for the Colmans….

Rudge and Brian are aware that change is afoot – I found Brian lounging in the bathroom sink the other morning which was a new one for her ! They are very sweet and Rudge understands that his daily romp on the beach is in abeyance for a few days….

Dan and Larry very kindly had us round for supper and Liz was there too – a great little break in the routine and cooked us a delicious lobster pasta

Okay dear readers – wish us luck with the move and thank your lucky stars that we have not been affected by Hurricane Melissa.
