Very Sad News and Introducing Island Nest

Sad news first, very sad news actually – and then introducing Island Nest in Governors Harbour to you……..

Dear Kathy Clavelle from Rainbow Bay died in the early hours of  Sunday morning in the US. She had pancreatic cancer which we all know is a brutal disease. Some of you will know that she is Dan Blow’s sister and she was a really wonderful woman. She was so bright , fun to be around, cheerful and positive as well as very talented. Kathy would find things on the beach and make all sorts of creative displays which she both cherished herself and gifted to people who loved them.

Kathy had the most incredible talent with plants – her gardens are spectacular. Total green fingers….

Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband Ray as well as her two sons, their wives and two grandsons who she adored. Life can be very cruel – they were about to move in to a lovely new home they had renovated in Rainbow Bay – but as John Lennon wrote  in the song Beautiful Boy ” life is what happens when you are busy making other plans ” and that includes death as well…..

This was Kathy 5 years ago at our party with Alba , one of our granddaughters

So as I often say – treasure the time you have with those you love because tomorrow is not a given.

This was taken during a dinner at Sprawling Towers – Kathy is on the left, then Dan then Ray – Kathy’s husband. You can see the person she was here xx

Rest in peace dear Kathy , and Ray and family we hold you in a safe place in our hearts and send love and support. Kathy we will not forget you, we will talk of you often and keep you close.

Now I want to tell you about Island Nest a lovely retail outlet on the Banks Road in Governors Harbour – just before you get to Tippy’s. It is the long held dream of owner Sarah Gardner. Sarah is a very experienced interior designer who moved to Eleuthera from Nassau four years ago . She was born in Nassau although she has worked around the world. Her father was a colorful character who had among things a renowned restaurant in Nassau called The Sun And…..

Anyway back to the store – it is stocked very well with good quality sheets and towels – so if you need to stock up you can do that on island now instead of having to send away for them. It is also stocked with fabulous items – throw pillows, rugs, candles , tea towels , soaps, candles, flatware – or cutlery as we from across the pond call it , books, glassware, decorative items, paper napkins and soon there will be furniture as well ! Exhausting just writing about it ……

Love these pillows

Sarah has a great eye and has curated a terrific selection of items. Whether you are looking for a gift for someone or want to treat yourself and spruce up your own home, this is a treasure trove of quality items in stock and on island. I am sure that she will do very well.

I love these trays

The shop is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10am until 4pm or by special appointment. Sarah offers a full interior design service which you can read about on her website – click on this link

Lots of lovely goodies

Or you can follow her on Instagram @island.nest

There is parking right outside – very handy.

This is the final one for now !

Many weeks as you well know there is very little genuine news to write about then suddenly a week like this comes along and there is too much to cram in ! Over the next week or two I will tell you about a great brunch that we went to in a new build house – pretty close to Sprawling Towers that is totally off grid. Also I will bring news of a trip we are taking this week to Bonaire , near Aruba to see an old school friend of Bob’s. Plus a quick write up about the first visit of mine to the Celestial Chronicles Book Club – phew. Plus some delicious meals we have enjoyed with good friends along with plenty of pictures. That should keep me quiet for a bit – right ?

Okay so that’s it for this week. Love and best wishes to the Clavelle and Blow families who have lost a treasured and special woman in Kathy.   Send them love and support during this sad time……

Treasure every day you have with people around you – none of us know what is happening even tomorrow……

This was the full moon last week taken from the veranda . That reflection on the Atlantic – fabulous

We just love your blog, Kathy – what a sense of community you convey in such warm descriptions, even when reporting sad news.

Thanks to you we are working with Sarah Gardner of Island Nest. Can’t say enough nice things and so excited to visit the shop in December!

  3. I am so sorry to hear about Kathy’s passing. She and I were gardening buddies when we lived on Eleuthera. She was so positive and talented, with a great sense of humor. My sincere condolences to Dan and the rest of her family.
