Wishing you all – dear readers – a very Happy Christmas. By the time next week’s blog is posted Christmas Day will have been and gone ! Another year coming to a close…..
As I always say at this time of year do pay attention to people around you who may be on their own, some from choice but many just because of circumstance. Think of those who are bereaved, or ill or just plain lonely. Those with financial worries will be having a very difficult time trying to negotiate the pressures of spending during the holiday season. So open your hearts and give a little time to speaking with those going through a troubled time.
Here in Eleuthera we are so lucky to be away from the intense pressure to eat, drink, spend and be merry. And I must admit that I don’t miss any of the hullaballoo – we are planning a quiet Christmas Day with a lunch at The Potlatch Club. A couple of good books to read and some warm mince pies , plus the occasional movie to watch will keep us happy at Sprawling Towers. And of course some FaceTime calls to family and friends – the next best thing to being able to hug them in real life.
The weather last weekend was absolutely awful – really strong winds and driving intermittent rain meant that two events we were supposed to go to were cancelled on Saturday. Plus multiple and long power outages piled on the misery ! It was a weekend to stay home and hunker down. The boats coming in from the US with so many Christmas supplies for people were delayed – the Kings Ocean boat – formerly Seacor – sat outside the harbour for at least a couple of days before it finally could dock on Tuesday ……
But on we go – the two events have been rescheduled – the event at Island nest will be between Christmas and New Year and the event for Bahamas Wellness is this Saturday.
Friday evening we enjoyed a delicious meal with Dan and Larry on Cupid’s Cay. It was lovely to catch up with Deiter and Krystal – just in from Austria and Amanda before she left for the UK and other destinations and Liz who we haven’t seen for ages. The food was fabulous and the company was great – Dan and Larry as I have said many times are great hosts – it is always an enjoyable event to spend time with them…..
This week we enjoyed a lovely lunch at Bacchus Fine Foods with good friend David who used to own a house in Eleuthera but is now based back in London. It was so good to take some time to chat and catch up and generally discuss what is happening in the world. It is very easy to neglect meeting up with friends so it was a real treat to spend a couple of hours with each other.
Bob and I celebrated our anniversary with a great lunch up at the Cove last Saturday. I had some sushi and a chicken Caesar salad and Bob had his favorite Kobe beef burger. It was very quiet – but do take note that you cannot just turn up for lunch or dinner. You have to book 24 hours in advance. So plan ahead and make sure you make those reservations …..
Thank you all of you who sent messages for our anniversaries – and it is amazing how far and wide the readership of the blog is. We have heard from not just people in the US, Canada and the UK but also from people who read the blog in New Zealand, Australia and countries in Europe. You are a wonderful community of Eleuthera lovers and it is always a joy to hear from any of you.
Merry Christmas wherever you are and I hope you find a way to enjoy the sentiments of peace on earth and goodwill to all in your own special ways ……
