This week I have been looking back over the years of our time here in Eleuthera. It is great to be able to use my record of photos as a diary – otherwise I would have no idea of what happened when !
Twenty years ago we had just moved here permanently and we were busy renovating and extending the Peach House apartments at Buena Vista. The picture of the original state of the building shows what a transformation took place. It went on the host many happy vacations for plenty of people over the years and continues to do so still.

We also had just acquired our first potcake – Joe Louis – the most adorable puppy you have to agree. I have told you before that I went to The Island Farm to get some salad greens and returned home with greens and a puppy …… He was a fabulous dog and went on to become the dog that visited all of our renters in the vacation homes over the next 11 years.
My Mum and her husband Theo came over for a vacation that year and decided at the end of two weeks that they would sell their house in the UK and move over here. At first they stayed in the newly renovated upstairs apartment at Peach House while we got on with building their house at the back of Buena Vista . In fact today – February 20th would have been her 98th birthday – which we always took a lot of effort to celebrate over the years she spent here. Happy Heavenly Birthday Mary xx

Then 10 years ago I see that we had finished the extension to Buena Vista along with a refurbished and opened up kitchen. We had a lovely visit from Cassius, Jessie and our grandchildren – Indi now 19 years old is about to take off and do some world traveling – so much has happened in those intervening years.

I also see that I featured Lakia’s store in North Palmetto Point – I still go there and buy fresh fruit from her.

You can see that we joined our good friends Justin and Lindy to celebrate his birthday at The Potlatch Club. Ten years ago, the cardigan I have around my shoulders in the celebration picture, had just been expertly mended by my great friend Joy in the UK. It had been got at by the moths and she made a feature of the darning to make it look deliberate. I loved that cardigan then and I still love it now …..

The meal was delicious – two of us had the seafood risotto and two had the mahi-mahi. Lindy had arranged to have a cake made for Justin’s birthday which the restaurant team at Potlatch served up with a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday ! Actually there were two other couples in the restaurant also celebrating their birthdays so it was a song filled evening……

So that’s my trip down memory lane this week. Sometimes it is good to look back at favorite memories that are remembered from the photos taken at the time. Have a good weekend dear readers and enjoy looking back at your own memories …….
