In the series Best of Eleuthera I want to share with you my top tips for the Banks Road deli…..
One of the places that I always recommend to our renters at Governors Estate is the Banks Road Deli – about a mile and a half out of Governors Harbour – heading south – you will find the deli just before Tippy’s restaurant. Owned by the same management as Tippy’s – it is a treasure trove of great food delicacies.
Staffed mainly by Denise Clarke – if you ever want cakes made by the way – ask her ! – it is open six days a week – Monday – Saturday 8am – 3pm. But if you are going to pick up freshly baked goods then leave it to 8.30am. There is a selection of croissants, chocolate croissant, apple, cheese or cinnamon danish, muffins, cookies, baguettes, 3 grain or sour dough bread – and my particular favorite – cheese topped bread !
There is a good selection of cheeses – the parmesan is particularly good – along with swiss, cambazola, brie, feta, blue and provolone.
Cold meats include salami, pastrami, ham and turkey and delicious olives – I know olives are not a meat but I just stuck that in there OK ?
There are chips – or as we English like to call them crisps – pasta, cookies , wine and all sorts of treats !
Denise makes up delicious sandwiches if you want to go off for a picnic – or you can sit outside on the deck and enjoy it there with a good cup of coffee…..
Adjoining the deli is the gift shop. here you will find local sea-glass jewelry, driftwood art, prints, T shirts, hats and other items of clothing.
Pay a visit and browse for a while – you will be surprised at what you can find there…….
This year in November will mark 10 years since the deli opened – definitely a reason to celebrate !
