Hello dear friends – yes still talking about shopping here in Eleuthera this week.
Last week I met a reader who introduced himself to me in Midway Costcutters in Savannah Sound. Pretty sure his name was Tom, a visitor here of many years standing and he told me how much he enjoyed the blog, we chatted about what we buy where and he told me how useful he found it reading my tips ! So pleased, always, when readers introduce themselves to me…… So check out Midway Costcutters for more selection.
Another place I was recommended to by none other than Kathy Burrows who I saw down at the Marketplace in Rock Sound is C &AA Service Center in Palmetto Point. This is the first gas station that you come to in Palmetto Point if you are heading south. There is a great selection inside – it is not huge but they do have lovely fresh produce as well as specialities like Plant Butter and Talenti Gelato – including a dairy free sorbetto . Take some time to peruse the shelves and fridges and you will be surprised what you find …. The staff are so kind and friendly so it makes for a nice shopping experience – plus they also stock Haagan Dazs ice cream !

Sadly I need to tell you that there is a holdup with the refurbishing of the Burrows old store. Apparently there is a hiccup with a construction permit that is needed so the new projected opening date has been put back until May. We are all aware of how difficult it can be with bureaucracy in the islands and wish the new owners all the best in getting this resolved as soon as possible. For anyone on island who is interested there is a meet and greet by Eleuthera Markets – as the new store will be called – on Friday 21st February at Workers House in Governors Harbour from 5pm – 8pm.

On a more personal note we enjoyed a lovely evening with Paul and Claire who came to supper at our house. Paul posts fabulous posts of the night sky – he is a keen astronomer – and I really enjoy looking at the night sky via his telescope which he posts on both Instagram and Facebook – you can too @pauladams2446

He brought his very portable telescope with him to show me but wouldn’t you just know it – the sky was totally overcast and we didn’t see a thing ! Anyway there will be another time I know…..
We had a very last minute invitation to join great friends Mike and Claudia with 2 of their friends Susan and Magnus at La Bougainvillea on Monday evening. Let me tell you it was absolutely packed out – on a Monday night ? Anyway we had a great time chatting and catching up and I must say the food was great. We shared Dynamite Shrimp and Conch Fritters as appetizers and then I had Thai Chicken something which was delicious. I asked for mine without bell peppers and it was really tasty and the chicken was tender ! Forgot to take any pictures but take my word it was all good…..

Finally we went for brunch with good friend Miranda who has a beautiful property on Windemere Island called Ocean Daze.
Click on the link to view the rental property …..

Brunch was really lovely – a very healthy salad with roasted sweet potatoes, local arugula. tomatoes and egg plus a very tasty quiche made with organic island kale and tomatoes. We had a leisurely time on the fabulous deck that overlooks the amazing beach. It was a really glorious day with clear blue sky and sunshine as well as a beautiful fresh breeze – it was a real treat to take a day off in the week and spend it relaxing and catching up …….

And so dear friends – on we go. Friday is Valentines Day – although I see a growing awareness that not everybody is in a relationship – Galantines and Palentines Day are for once a good reminder of that and help to celebrate good friends instead.
Take care of yourselves and celebrate the friendships that make our lives so much richer …….

Thank you so much for these shopping tips Kathy. They’re really helpful.
Btw…Windswept is a great look esp. in Valentine red.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Glad that you find this helpful – thanks for the kind words !
You saved me with the tip about the service center having plant based butter! I’ve been out for weeks and couldn’t find any! Stopped in today and grabbed some (and, of course had to try the DF Talenti, too). 🙂 Thank you so much!! Have a Happy Valentine’s Day!
