Hello dear readers – this week a birthday and a minor brush with Storm Erin.
On Sunday it was my birthday and my gift to myself was a day taking it really easy and relaxing followed by an early dinner at Tippy’s with great friends Dan and Larry , Amanda and her youngest daughter Lauren. It was a lovely evening – Tippy’s was very quiet so we had more or less the place to ourselves. Dan had baked me a birthday cake – a lemon flavored one which I really like and the staff served it up with a chorus of Happy Birthday and lit the candle .

Amanda had arranged for Kelly to make me a basket of flowers which she delivered during dinner. All in all I felt very spoilt and it was just what I had wished for. Easy going , relaxed and in the company of lovely people…..

Bob and I have moved into another house right here in Governors Harbour. It is one that we renovated six years ago and then sold in Autumn 2020. Readers – it is like coming home ! Even though we never even stayed in it before it still feels like one of ours ! Of course Mark and Maxine ,the new owners, have put their own stamp on it there is still a lot of what we originally put in there. It is a beautifully comfortable home and is available to rent through Governors Harbour Collection. But not for the next 6 weeks !!
Here in Eleuthera we have been lightly brushed with the outer reaches of Storm Erin. Starting at the end of last week we have had large amounts of seaweed washed up onto all the Atlantic side beaches. Rudge particularly loves rolling around in the seaweed and Rufus and Xena play in it as well.

There is no chance of being able to go in the water at the moment on the Atlantic side as the sea is very rough and the seaweed is everywhere. It is amazing that all this comes in and at some stage will be washed out again. The beauty of walking the beach regularly is seeing how it can change so dramatically. A reminder in the best Buddhist tradition that all things are impermanent.

The winds have been very high and gusty but we have not had huge amounts of rain. Just some when you least expect it of course and when it is most inconvenient like when you have bags of shopping to get in the car and then the house !

One of the only things we miss about leaving Sprawling Towers was the covered parking area right outside the front door. The ability to get in and out of the car – shaded in the sun and protected in the rain – was a real treat. So we decided to make a good sized parking area outside the 2 new Wykee houses. We are working on The Other Place at the moment and the covered parking is going to be a godsend. It won’t be right outside the door but we will get it so that it is covered to the doors front and back. The heat here at this time of year is fierce and it can’t do our vehicles any good to reach such high temperatures.

So now Bacchus Fine Foods have closed, along with the Buccaneer and 1648. Choices of where you can eat out are getting smaller and smaller but thankfully we have the food store with a good range of fresh produce which means that cooking at home is the order of the day.
The Island Farm and Tippy’s are both closing at the end of the month so I have stocked up on the salmon fillets and shrimp from their freezers and I will be buying a rotisserie chicken as well. So handy for getting a few dishes out of it. A chicken , mushroom and leek pie, a chicken curry and at least one pasta dish. Making the most of the convenience while I can…..
Okay dear readers – that’s it for this week. Have a great weekend and be kind wherever you can……
