Yes dear readers – it is absolutely sizzling summer heat here in Eleuthera at the moment. However with did have a few good showers which are much appreciated – but of course then the mosquitos are in full swing ! It is just the way that summers are here – and there are thunderstorms circling around as well……
Anyway – work is progressing at The Other Place at Wykee and all it is at the moment it seems is demolition ! We have taken out a bathroom and the space will be part of the kitchen. Bob has had some great ideas for utilizing all the space and between us we have a great and practical plan.
The new staircase all covered with sheetrock – just need the actual steps finishing now……
There will be an upstairs laundry on the main living floor instead of downstairs which frankly is a bit of a pain. This is going to be conjured from the outside veranda and will also have some storage as well for mops and buckets and all that malarkey …… There will be a powder room on this floor as well – not a luxury but a total necessity. The bathroom is replaced with a lovely new ensuite that I have written about before.

It is a lovely creative time and we are both enjoying it .
We treated ourselves at the weekend to lunch on Sunday at The Potlatch Club. I wanted to check when they are closing for the season – it is on or slightly before August 15th – until November 1st. They have had a wonderful and successful first season and certainly deserve a break. All the Bhutanese members of the team are flying back to visit their families and friends in Bhutan and we wish them a safe and happy trip.

The Buccaneer will be closing around mid to late August as well so if you are on island get those treats in quickly.
Tippy’s closes on August 31st . We enjoyed a lovely meal there this week with some people who are renting the other cottage at South Beach. We had met them briefly outside our respective cottages and when we went in to Tippy’s they were sitting there already. So we joined forces and had a lovely evening getting to know Linda and Colin from Vero Beach. It was a relaxed and easy going time and we all thoroughly enjoyed our impromptu get together.

Bacchus Fine Foods will also close at the end of the month. We have had some great lunches there over the last few weeks. I also found some great samosas in their freezer which make a really tasty and easy lunch.
Easy food is what I am after at the moment – to be honest I am so shattered at the end of the day that the idea of having to cook anything elaborate is horrifying and totally beyond me ! We still manage to eat well even when nearly everywhere is closed down – which will be soon.
I need to check on what is happening at La Bougainvillea and 1648. Both of them usually stay open with reduced menus but until I have checked we shouldn’t assume anything.
Last week I was giving thanks for the people who make our lives easier and this week I want to give a big shout out to Dan and Larry, and Mark who between them take great care of Rudge when we want to travel. I honestly don’t know what we would do without them. Rudge thrives on the company when we are away and hopefully behaves himself ! Thank you to you all…..
It is a great exercise to recognize the people who do make our lives not just easier but also more pleasurable. I will be letting you know periodically who those people are.
By the way Monique’s yoga class on Saturday morning was fantastic. There were 9 of us in the class – more than there are sometimes in the height of the season – so if you are on island do come along. 9.30 Saturday morning at the Levy Preserve.

Good for the body and the soul …..
Okay dear friends – that’s it for this week. I hope that you are enjoying your summer and having adventures of your own – whether at home or while you are traveling.
