Hello, I'm Kathy Colman and I write about Eleuthera and other things.
This week we had two celebrations of great lives here in Eleuthera. The first one was for a wonderful lady called Mary Nally – she has been coming to Eleuthera for many years to visit her great friends Eileen and Ian Gray who live on the up hill in Governors Harbour. They held a party in celebration of Mary’s 80th […]
So this week there is lots to tell you about a great party in Governors Harbour, a car upside down in the harbour, news on Jack’s Bay and a brilliant craft company in Kenya ! First the party – it was Angelika Bacchus’s 50th and boy does she know how to throw a party ! Here in her own words […]
Well although we are back home now in Eleuthera – a few tales of culture vultures in London. I had never visited Westminster Abbey in my life – so I had decided when we were planning our last minute trip that a tour of the Abbey would be top of the list of cultural pursuits ….. It was such a […]
So off to London we go – but not always as according to the best laid plans ! We were due to fly to Philadelphia from Nassau – and then on to London – but bad weather kept on delaying our flight until I saw the latest one and said to Bob that we would miss our connection. The next […]
Great news that Tippy’s has reopened and it has a new outlook ! Many of you will know that Elliott Rolle who was the manager is now a partner in the business – and he has a really refreshing attitude to what is going on. Firstly the building has had a nice revamp – the bathrooms have been upgraded – […]
Great news and a preview – Bahama Hand Prints are opening in Governors Harbour. They are going to be in the Pink Perch building – just across the road from our office at the bottom of the up hill …. And guess who had a sneak preview prior to the opening on Saturday 17th November – yes it was me ….. […]
Great news this week that the Island Farm and the Buccaneer are both open again. So we can have lovely fresh greens and goodies from the farm – no fresh baked bread until the week of Thanksgiving . The farm also now sells a great selection of beers, wines and spirits as well as a fridge full of great items. […]
This week a look at the progress at the Salt Spray Bar down at Jacks Bay. The steel frame has arrived on island and we have pictures of the crane lifting the various pieces into place. Like a large puzzle the pieces are assembled and the structure gets stronger and stronger. Also work on the rustic stone wall has commenced. […]
So did you ever hear of Ciguatera ? some of you will know all too well what it is unfortunately ! And I found out to my cost over this last week. I had heard of a horrible poisoning that you can get from eating – usually – barracuda. It has all sorts of weird effects but now I know […]
So Saturday saw a good sized group of us meeting up at 7am outside CIBC First Caribbean Bank in Governors Harbour to Walk For the Cure Eleuthera. This walk raises money locally here on the island to help support people with cancer – paying for traveling expenses etc. When someone in your family has cancer it is a super stressful […]
This week – it’s October already – can you believe it – and a couple of other stories….. The year is passing in a blur – it is so important to just pause on occasions and take a deep breath and enjoy the changes that the months bring. The beach as pictured above has taken a pounding over the last […]
Last week I told you we were hosting a party to celebrate with the Goslings who are leaving the island – this week we have the results of that party ….. What a lovely evening. It was very well attended by lots of people who wanted to show their appreciation. Jay and Lionel Fernander of Sunset Inn did a great […]
